Ghost ghost town, Nevada

I'm so post-modern. This is a (fake) ghost town that went under and became a (real) ghost town. I was using slide film for this shot, so it looks pretty swanky in real life, but you can't tell from the dodgy scan.

There are few more shots taken at this location, and in some of them you can see the Shell service station a few hundred metres away. This servo (isn't it funny how you use Australianisms os that you'd never use in real life?[1]) had a bar (yay!) and a brothel as well as the usual range of tourist tshirts, snacks and magazines. I got an excellent kid sized alien tshirt (it's right near some big alien spotting place), but what I really wanted was the tshirt about the Best Little Whorehouse in Nevada, but they only had them in large to xxxlarge. I guess the truckie market is bigger than the post-ironic city chick tourist market and they couldn't justify a run of really small tshirts. Pity. Both the alien tshirt and the brothel tshirts had url's on them, I'll try and dig them out. If you're ever passing through, stop and go into the service station - the guy serving you has to give any guy a 'sexual menu' for the brothel, but he apologises as he does so.

Anyway, with an star attraction like the Shell/brothel, you'd think this tourist town would be thriving, but as you can see, it didn't make it. Perhaps it was the 'Cafe' that did it. I can imagine that kind of historical inaccuracy would really drive the Americans crazy.

[1] That's twice now that the implicit real world/online world distinction has been mentioned. It's time I got out more, I think.
